What Is the Science Lab in Heartopia?
The Science Lab is a special building where players can research items that are not available anywhere else in the game. Research is done using the Research Device inside the lab, and each project runs on real-world time. Depending on the item, research can take anywhere from 8 hours to 2 full days.
In addition to unlocking items, every completed research grants Energy. Energy functions as experience for the lab and is required to level up the Central Console.
How to Unlock the Science Lab
The Science Lab becomes available once your D.G. Member Level reaches 27. After leveling up to 28, the lab feature unlocks automatically and starts the Self-Service Lab quest, which introduces you to the system.
The building is located in Central Square, along the main circular road, making it easy to find once unlocked.
How Research Works
Each research project requires an upfront gold cost, an available research slot, and time. Once a research begins, it cannot be canceled, so choosing the right item is important.
When the timer finishes, you can claim both the researched item and the Energy reward. At early levels, progressing the lab requires hundreds of Energy, so advancement is intentionally slow at first.
Best Research Strategy
Short research projects provide smaller amounts of Energy but finish quickly, allowing you to run multiple projects per day. Long research projects take much more time but reward significantly more Energy.
If your goal is to level up the Science Lab faster, focusing on shorter research durations is more efficient. If you are collecting rare items, combining short and long research projects is a better approach.
How to Reduce Research Time
Research time can be reduced by upgrading the Research Device. Inside the Research Device menu, you can access a leveling tab that shows available upgrades.
There are five Research Device levels in total. Each upgrade reduces research duration, but requires gold and a specific Central Console level. The first level is unlocked by default, while higher levels require steady progression.
Installing More Research Devices
At the beginning, only one Research Device is available. As you level up the Central Console, you can install up to four Research Devices inside the lab, allowing multiple research projects to run simultaneously.
Additional devices unlock at Central Console Levels 3, 5, and 10. More devices significantly speed up research and overall progression.
Central Console Progression
The Central Console is located at the center of the Science Lab. Once you accumulate enough Energy from research, you can interact with it to level up.
Each level unlocks new research items and additional upgrades. Currently, the Central Console has a maximum level of 5, with a total of 41 researchable items available.
Research Store Overview
The Science Lab also includes a Research Store, accessible through a kiosk inside the lab. This store allows you to purchase research items directly using Wishing Stars.
However, items in the Research Store are expensive, often costing 60 Wishing Stars or more, and purchases are limited to 20 items per week. Because of this, the store is best used only when necessary.
