Slow life sim Heartopia is absolutely brimming with adorable – and improbably round – animals. Catching, caring for, and occasionally (somewhat jarringly) cooking a wide variety of critters is at the heart of most of the game's seven major hobbies, including cat care, dog care, birdwatching, bug catching, and fishing.
Beyond hobbies, Heartopia also features a dedicated system for befriending wild animals. Rather than adopting a single creature, you build friendship with an entire species by feeding them at their designated animal troughs.
These troughs are scattered across Heartopia’s regions and are rarely marked outside of the tutorial. With eight animal species to discover, this guide covers all trough locations, favourite foods, and preferred weather so you can raise friendship levels efficiently.
Panda Trough Location
- Favourite Foods: Bamboo, Apple, ???
- Favourite Weather: Rainy
Pandas live along the outer edge of the Forest region, specifically the southern area near the Jump Puzzle where bamboo naturally grows.
The panda trough is located beside the stairs leading up to the Jump Puzzle platforms. When facing the stairs, look to the right. The trough is shaded by bamboo and appears to be carved from a giant bamboo stalk.
Capybara Trough Location
- Favourite Foods: Tomato, Raspberry, ???
- Favourite Weather: Rainy
Capybaras inhabit the Onsen Mountain region, settling in one of the highest areas beyond the geyser pool.
Their trough sits at the edge of a crescent-shaped pool where capybaras frequently swim. This pool is located in the north-western mountains, just east of the ancient ruins.
Bunny Trough Location
- Favourite Foods: Weeds, Tomato, Strawberry
- Favourite Weather: Sunny
Bunnies are unique among Heartopia’s wild animals, as they live in the suburbs near the town centre rather than outer regions.
Their trough is found along a path in the south-western suburbs leading toward the Flower Fields. It sits between a small pond to the south and the area bus stop to the north.
If you’re lost, travel to Home Lot #2 and follow the opposite path back toward town. The bunny trough will be on your left.
Fox Trough Location
- Favourite Foods: Meat, ???, ???
- Favourite Weather: Rainbow
Foxes roam the central area of the Flower Field region, especially around Meadow Lake.
To find their trough, locate the windmill at the southern tip of Meadow Lake. The trough rests at the base of the flower-covered hill where the windmill stands.
Sea Otter Trough Location
- Favourite Foods: Common Shrimp, Oriental Shrimp, ???
- Favourite Weather: Rainy
Sea otters are among the easiest wild animals to find in Heartopia. They gather on the rocks between the two piers at the Fishing Village.
Their trough is located right alongside this rocky hangout spot, making daily feeding quick and convenient.
Ferret Trough Location
- Favourite Foods: Eggs, Sea Bass, ???
- Favourite Weather: ???
The ferret trough is one of the hardest to locate due to the species’ wide roaming area.
Travel to the Flower Field region and find the northernmost windmill near the river bridge. From the bridge, follow the path past the windmill; the ferret trough is positioned further along this route.
Silka Deer Trough Location
- Favourite Foods: Branches, Lettuce, House Salad
- Favourite Weather: Sunny, Rainbow
Silka deer live in the Forest region and are commonly spotted near lakes closer to the inner map.
Their trough is located along the shoreline of Forest Lake, near the easternmost curve of the water and just across a nearby path.
Alpaca Trough Location
- Favourite Foods: Blueberries, Wheat, ???
- Favourite Weather: Sunny, Rainbow
Alpacas inhabit the Flower Field region, overlooking Purple Light Beach. This area hosts daily events like the Yellow Duck Jump Puzzle and Bubble Machine Challenge.
The alpaca trough is located at the crest of the hill sloping toward the beach, just off the path leading south toward the river bridge.
