Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids Update Launches Today
Path of Exile 2 from Grinding Gear Games has officially received its massive The Last of the Druids update, launching today alongside a brand-new free weekend across all platforms.
The free weekend runs from December 12 at 8 PM CET until December 15 at 8 PM CET (11 AM PST), allowing players to experience the campaign at no cost on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Games Store.
A New Shapeshifting Class: The Druid
The headline feature of The Last of the Druids update is the arrival of the Druid, a ruthless new class centered around powerful shapeshifting mechanics fueled by ancient Talismans.
- Wolf Form – Freeze enemies and command a deadly pack
- Bear Form – Build Rage and maul everything in your path
- Wyvern Form – Take flight and rain lightning, fire, and destruction from above
In human form, Druids unleash earth-shattering storms, erupting volcanoes, and binding roots, further enhanced by the new Spell Totem skill.
Druid Ascendancies Explained
Players can further specialize by choosing one of two powerful Druid Ascendancies:
- The Shaman – Consumes Rage to amplify elemental damage, uses ancient Runes and Idols, and unleashes multi-elemental storms with the fearsome Bringer of the Apocalypse.
- The Oracle – Manipulates timelines using Foresight, boosts skill damage, and unlocks over 130 new passives, including unique abilities such as Self-Sacrificing and Corruption Endures.
Gameplay Optimization and New Content
The update also introduces major gameplay improvements and balance changes, including:
- Over 30 new Support Gems, including powerful Lineage Supports
- 11 new Unique items
- Extensive balance adjustments across dozens of skills and items
These additions greatly expand build diversity and endgame experimentation.
The Fate of the Vaal League Returns
The new league, Rewrite the Past – The Fate of the Vaal, allows players to construct and customize ancient temples while confronting Vaal’s dark legacy.
Key features include:
- Fully customizable temple layouts
- More than a dozen unique room types
- New Vaal crafting systems, including Juatalotli’s Triumph and the Precursor Machine
The ultimate challenge awaits in the form of Queen Atziri, the new Pinnacle Boss. Defeating her rewards Atziri’s Rule, a powerful staff that enhances corrupted gems and unleashes devastating projectile novas.
Abyss Mechanics Become Permanent
Abyss content is now a permanent part of Path of Exile 2, featuring new Atlas passives, upgraded Tablets, and streamlined crafting systems.
Tablets can now be upgraded to Rare quality after defeating the Arbiter of Ash, granting even greater rewards.
