Combat Modules are one of the most impactful progression systems in RF Online Next, unlocking at level 50 and offering meaningful stat boosts through a rerollable grade system. Knowing how to approach them efficiently — and when to push for the perfect roll — can save you a significant amount of Credits and materials in the long run.
This guide covers the goals, methods, and important caveats for selecting the best Combat Modules for your character.
What Are Combat Modules?
Combat Modules are additional enhancement elements that unlock gradually starting at level 50. By spending Credits and consuming Tactical Nodes or Arcane Nodes, you can boost key combat stats such as attack power, defense, and critical hit rate.
Combat Modules come in three grades:
- Common — the lowest tier with basic stat increases.
- Rare — a mid-tier option with improved boosts.
- Legendary — the highest tier, granting the strongest individual stats and contributing to powerful part set bonuses.
You can reroll a module's stats any number of times using the "Change" function, which consumes Credits, Tactical Nodes, and Arcane Nodes. Some stats are fixed per module, while others are randomly assigned each time you reroll.
Because the Credit cost to activate modules is relatively low compared to the combat power gained, it's strongly recommended to activate them as soon as you hit the required level — don't leave free stats on the table.
The Goal: Aim for Full Legendary Grade
The ultimate objective of Combat Module selection is to obtain all desired stats at Legendary grade. Legendary modules provide significantly greater stat boosts than Common or Rare, and when an entire block is upgraded to Legendary, it becomes a Legendary Part. As you accumulate more Legendary Parts, you earn additional bonus effects based on the total count.
In the early stages, your primary goal is simply to fill every module slot with Legendary-grade entries. Trying to get perfect random options on every slot simultaneously at the start will drain your materials quickly. Focus on hitting Legendary grade first, then refine the random options as your resources allow.
How to Choose Random Options
Once you have enough Credits, Tactical Nodes, and Arcane Nodes stockpiled, you can start being selective about which random stats you keep.
Understand Appearance Rates
Not all stats appear with equal probability. Some of the most versatile stats — those useful across PvP and PvE — have a lower appearance rate than others. Even so, they are worth pursuing because of how broadly applicable they are to any content.
Match Stats to Your Play Style
It's best to tailor your Combat Modules to your character's strengths and how you play:
- If you mainly run boss battles and PvE content, prioritize stats that maximize damage output against monsters.
- If you enjoy PvP, look for stats that counter enemy builds or boost your survivability in player-versus-player encounters.
- Some Biosuit modules are specifically optimized for PvP or PvE and have a higher drop rate — these can be a practical choice if your focus is narrow.
Even within Legendary modules, the probability of rolling each stat differs. Check the rates before committing heavy resources to chasing a specific option.
How to Select Combat Modules: Step-by-Step
The process for carefully selecting Combat Modules follows these main steps:
- 1 Select the block you want to work on. Open "Combat Module" from the menu and choose the block you want to activate. Blocks are unlocked sequentially, starting from level 1.
- 2 Identify the stats you want. Decide in advance which stats matter most for your build before spending materials.
- 3 Reroll until satisfied. Use "Change" to reroll the random options repeatedly until you land on the stats you're aiming for.
Make Changes Before Advancing to the Next Stage
Once you advance to the next stage, you can no longer go back to change Combat Modules from the previous stage. The only way to modify an earlier stage is to select "Reset All" and start the entire process over from the beginning — even if you got a great result on a later stage.
For this reason, it's strongly recommended to reroll each stage to your satisfaction before moving on. Advancing with a mediocre result to "fix it later" will cost you a full reset.
Using the Auto-Change Feature
If you have a healthy stock of Credits, Tactical Nodes, and Arcane Nodes, you can speed up the reroll process with the auto-change feature. Rather than clicking "Change" one at a time, the system will continue rerolling automatically until it finds a result matching your specified criteria.
To configure auto-change, use the checkboxes to select the grades and stats you want to target. Crucially, uncheck any stats you don't want — if an unwanted stat appears, the system will automatically continue rerolling rather than stopping.
It's generally recommended to exclude low-versatility, niche stats from your auto-change targets, such as:
- Piece ATK
- Cut ATK
- Impact ATK
These damage types apply only in narrow situations and won't benefit your character in the majority of content.
Important Points to Keep in Mind
Previous Stages Are Locked After Advancing
This is worth repeating: once you move to the next stage, all modules from earlier stages become locked. To change them, you must use "Reset All," which wipes your entire progress — including any stages you were happy with. There is no selective reset option.
Tactical Nodes Are Scarce
While Arcane Nodes can substitute for Tactical Nodes in some cases, Arcane Nodes are not specifically designated as Combat Module enhancement materials, meaning you can't acquire large quantities of them easily. Both node types need to be accumulated steadily through:
- Completing missions and quests
- Opening reward boxes
- Running Arcane Trials
